Hi!
Here you will find long-awaited stories of adventure in Africa.
What’s the scoop?
After high school I spent 8 months tramping around South Africa and Kenya. The more interesting part of that journey (aka the part you get to read about) was the final 10 weeks living in a Masai village in Kenya. There, I joined other local teenagers to independently start a community development project from the ground up.
You can check out the project here, but this website is mostly about the fun/bizarre happenings while being the only Westerner in a rural part of Kenya.
This post serves as a nice introduction.
DANGER
People ask me about Africa as if it’s a disease: “Isn’t it dangerous? Why didn’t you die? ”
(Of course, there were a few times when I could have.)
But for me, the unpredictability of Africa was ideal. I never knew what I was doing, and I became OK with that, which made room for the real magic to flow.
The most dangerous place on the planet for me is my own home in the US- I’m in constant danger of thinking I ‘know’ what I’m doing. In other words, thinking too hard. It’s time for a new cliff to leap off of.
WHY?
Why not?
People have asked for these stories, and I enjoy sharing them.
When I grow up (correction: IF I ever grow up), I want writing to still be a part of life.
Africa is a great place to start.
